Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 August 2026 · Draft pending legal review

Inspire Academic exists to help students learn, not to profit from their data. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what rights you and your family have over it.

In short: we collect what we need to track your learning and show your progress to you, your parents, and your teachers — nothing more. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your data to serve you advertising.

1. Who We Are

Inspire Academic [not yet incorporated as a distinct legal entity — company name/number to be added on incorporation], operating from London, United Kingdom ("we", "us"). For any privacy question or request, contact us at info@inspireacademic.org.

3. How We Use Your Information

We do not use your personal information to serve targeted advertising, and we do not sell it to third parties.

4. AI Features and Your Data

Some parts of Inspire Academic — generating practice questions and marking free-response answers — are powered by AI models provided by Anthropic. When you submit a free-response answer for marking, the question, your answer, and the relevant mark scheme are sent to Anthropic's API to generate feedback and a suggested mark. This data is processed under Anthropic's own data handling terms and is not used by Anthropic to train their general-purpose models.

We do not send your full name, contact details, or account credentials to the AI provider as part of this process — only what's needed to mark the specific answer (your first name may be included so feedback can be personalised).

5. Legal Basis for Processing (UK GDPR)

We process your information because it's necessary to provide the Service you or your parent/guardian signed up for (contract), because we have a legitimate interest in improving the platform and keeping it secure, and — for children below the relevant age threshold — because a parent or guardian has given consent.

6. Children's Privacy

Many Inspire Academic users are under 18, and some are under 13. We take extra care with this data:

7. Who We Share Your Information With

We share information only with the service providers who help us run Inspire Academic, under contracts that require them to protect it:

We may also share information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users.

8. Where Your Data Is Stored

Inspire Academic is operated from London, United Kingdom, and we serve learners in both the UK and Africa. All learner data is currently stored in a single database region: London, United Kingdom (Europe). For our UK learners, this means your data stays in the UK. For learners joining us from Africa, your data is transferred to and stored in the UK — we use appropriate legal safeguards to protect it when it crosses borders this way, and we're evaluating additional regional storage as we grow.

9. How Long We Keep Your Data

We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active, so your progress history remains useful to you. If an account is closed, we delete or anonymise personal data within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep limited records for legal or safety reasons.

10. Keeping Your Data Secure

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections, access controls limiting who can see student data, and Row Level Security so students, parents, and teachers only ever see the data they're authorised to see.

11. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you (or a parent/guardian acting for a child) have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, contact info@inspireacademic.org.

12. Cookies and Local Storage

We use essential cookies and browser local storage to keep you signed in, remember your theme preference, and cache flashcard progress for offline reliability. We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Inspire Academic grows. We'll post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date, and let you know about material changes.
